My pieces are made with red earthenware clay and fired in an electric kiln to cone 04. The vessels are thrown on a wheel, and the tile pieces are press molded. Decoration is applied using colored slips and glazes. I create physically and visually layered surfaces with different consistencies of slip, using paper resist to get crisp outlines or a watery brush to create a thin veil of slip. The glazes are trailed on using a bulb syringe. I use several different glaze bases with different opacities and surface qualities, ranging from shiny and translucent to opaque and textured. In addition to slips and glazes, I often apply gold luster in a final low temperature firing.
